This week’s whipper comes to you from Grigoriy Chshukin, who was running some steep glacier-ice laps on the Bogdanovich glacier, in Kazakhstan, for his media production company Jasa Universe. “Unsurprisingly, the ice was brittle and shattered under our tools, so we switched to a pinkpoint session,” Chshukin tells Climbing.

“At one point, the chunk of ice under my tool suddenly cracked, but I didn’t notice. I made a move up, ripped it out, and we both went flying. Luckily, I was close to a screw, so the fall was soft.”

“Pretty sure my belayer had a rougher time—she’s 25 kilos lighter than me!”

Happy Friday, and be safe out there this weekend. Thanks to Andrey Devetyarow for the video.
